"Your essay shows not only that you've assimilated the essential teachings of Yoga very well but also are championing the 'real thing'."
Georg Feuerstein's words on Sylvie's final essay for the history, litarature and philosophy of yoga course

It has been a great joy to be one of Sylvie's teachers for over ten years now. Her perspective on yoga is both broad and deep, encompassing her interest in a number of schools of yoga asana and philosophy. Eager, inquisitive and modest students make the very best teachers, so you would be wise to explore the world of yoga with Sylvie.
Marcia Solomon

I taught Sylvie Gouin the Yoga Sûtras of Patanjali directly from the Sanskrit verses. She explored the interpretations of the Yoga Sûtras with a genuine interest and passion. Sylvie believes in the greatness of the human potential and loves sharing it with anyone she teaches or meets. I would recommend Sylvie as a dedicated teacher of Yoga since she offers a definite depth of awareness." Lynne Cardinal, Ottawa www.kaivalya.ca

Worthy of Love

You can search the whole universe and not find a single being more worthy of love than yourself.

Sylvie Gouin

E-RYT 500 and Registered with the Federation of Ontario Yoga Teachers.

As a Student and Teacher of Yoga, as a Mother, Business Owner, and Registered Holistic Nutritionist with an active lifestyle, I am dedicated to the practice of yoga on and off the mat. In 2001 with Brian Oxborough, I founded Core-Elation Yoga and Massage. The name was chosen to emphasize the importance of correlating different modalities to allow for growth and elation from the core-out. My unique teaching style, based on my ability to correlate valuable "on and off the mat" yogic philosophy with an accessible yet challenging asana routine allows students to leave feeling physically, mentally, and emotionally open, strong, flexible, and completely refreshed. My intention is always to provide a class that will nurture balance on all levels – an opportunity for everyone to be reminded of the perfection of one’s individuality interconnected with all.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to have studied with many world-renowned Teachers, including Yogi Bhajan, Marshall Govindam, Gurucharn, Richard Freeman, Pattabhis Jois, David Swenson, Swami Vivekananda Saraswati and Gurumuk Kaur Khalsa, who have enhanced my life through a variety of teacher training's, workshops, and retreats here and abroad in the Kundalini, Tantra, and Hatha Lineages. Having had the privilege to study privately with Lynne Cardinal has helped clarify the philosophy of yoga and supported my ability to apply it to daily life. Private and group studies with Marcia Solomon have taken my personal asana practise to the next level and have allowed me to improve my teaching substantially. Favorite authors and audio speakers are: Georg Feuerstein, Ken Wilber, and Pema Chodron. I completed the 800-hour course on the History - Literature and Philosophy of Yoga created by Georg Feuerstein. Ken Wilber ( world renown philosopher) refers to Georg Feuerstein as the world’s foremost authority on Yoga today. He is the author of over 30 books and is an inspiration for anyone who honestly wants to take their yoga beyond the mat.

I am grateful to Brian Oxborough,my husband, best friend and number one anatomy teacher and business coach. I appreciate the many students who ask questions, share their experiences, and keep coming back. The continuous return is what allows for so much growth. I am incredibly grateful to my mother for introducing me to Yoga in 1987 when I was only 16 years old, and I have great appreciation for the the experience of India.

Although I have had a few part-time jobs (while teaching Yoga), such as nutrition consultant at Rainbow Health Food Store, teaching Yoga is really the only “career” I have ever had. I take great pride in being a Yoga teacher and aspire for continuous growth and teaching opportunities.

I have had a vegetarian lifestyle for the past 20 years. I believe in vegetarianism as a source of eliminating or at least reducing unnecessary animal suffering, green house gas emission, over-consumption of water and land, and overall health. If you are interested in finding out more about the why and how of vegetarian eating, the following book will provide great inspiration: The China Study

With the influence of Cathy Lewis, founder of iSisters, I developed a variety of programs to introduce yoga to the community at large. Programs for abused woman and adolescents trying to quite toxic habits have entitled me to receive the Community Builder Award from United Way.

My goal is to continue teaching until I am 108. Then, if tired, I may retire.
